Energy Pyramid
The energy pyramid is an organizer for demonstrating the different levels of energy flow within a certain food chain. The energy pyramid begins at the bottom with trophic level number one, which is the producer. The producer always has the most energy and this is why it is located at the bottom (which is the largest level), to show that it has the most. As the pyramid narrows more and more as it goes up, the trophic levels describe the primary consumer, secondary consumer, and tertiary consumer. The very top level (the smallest level) represents the consumer which receives the least amount of energy. Each trophic level only gains 10% energy from what it consumed. The first trophic level, which is the producer level, receives its energy from the sun. The 90% of energy that is kept by the organisms is used to carry out its typical functions such as reproducing, moving, or cellular respiration.
